A great display of ball striking from Larry who took the match on a cold day with a fabulous 40pts. On any other day his 21 pts would have easily won the back nine, but Dave Archbold took it with a fantastic 22pts. Captain Bob was the leader in the clubhouse but seen all his scores beaten by this dynamic duo, but his round, a gross, 74 was very impressive also.

As such there were some good TOG's scores registered and Cap'n Bob took the match with a very solid 37pts. The course was probably in better nick last week, when if fact it was closed ! However, open it was ? and ONLY four hardy souls ventured out ! Fool Hardy, are probably the words most would use ? Never the less, this is the Winter League ! It rained for most of the round, but it did ease off on the back nine, as the scores reflect. Eddy won the front nine with a very good 14pts in the conditions. Will Smith won the back nine with a very respectable 18pts. The match was halved with Dave Rowntree matching Will's total of 29pts. We can only hope for better weather to come ?

The course was open for the second week in a row !!!! Although still very wet, the course was playable and the leading players in the hunt for this years TOGS title, took the bull by the horns and turned it into a four horse race, Until Week 19, our League leader Alan Ross was sitting at home, waiting for the engraver to spell his name correctly ? But wait, Past Captain Bob, hasn't read the the script, a couple of 37 pointers and we have game on. Last season's Champ, Larry Page is also making a late push for the tape. A 40 and a 36 have put him back in contention to repeat last years success ? A little of the pace, BUT, not out of it, the Champ from two years ago, Duncan McCree could still have a say in the title's destiny.
In the Knock-Out Singles: Dave Rowntree beat Eddy Stothert, and Dave Archbold beat Bill Fletcher to progress to the Semi-Finals.
Week Twenty Three: Saturday 5th March 2011
Front Nine: Bob Whitehead 21pts.

Thinking the pantomime season was well and truly over, was a big mistake ? Last week we were shout at Alan and Bob, "He's behind you" ! He, being the defending Champion Larry(Le Plec)Page !!!!! And here we are this week shouting "Oh no he's not" ! another fine return of 38pts by Larry, has took him to the top of the table, two ahead of Alan, three on Bob(who by the way was out in 21pts, a half decent back nine and, Ahh! he can only dream !) . Only three weeks remain in this years battle to be top TOG, so watch this space. John Grant recorded another dead steady 36pts, and while Duncan increased his total to 211, six points may be too much to make up ? But we never say never ? It was nice to see our first ever, TOGS Champion Doug Walker, back on the course, and scoring a very respectable 34pts to boot.
Week Twenty Four: Saturday 12th March 2011
Front Nine: Halved: Alan Ross, Steve Todd 19pts.
Back Nine: John Grant 21pts.
Match: John Grant 39pts. Alan Ross 37pts, Steve Todd 36pts, Dave Rowntree, Larry Page 33pts, Dave Bavaird 32pts, Paul Hunt 30pts, Eddy Stothert 29pts. Bob Whitehead 28pts, Duncan McCree 27pts.
Two weeks to go, and it's all change again ! Alan Ross scored an excellent 37pts to leap frog young Le Plec, (I'm not saying he's short, mind you ?)and go back to the top of the table, on 218pts. In the race for the title, Larry, could only match his worst score(33), while Bob and Duncan didn't have the best of weeks ! But one man who did do well, was The General, John Grant, he scored a magnificent 39pts to move into fourth place(212pts) ! The top three will be looking over their shoulders, as John has scores of 32 and 34 to knock off, and with his handicap it could be done.
Week Twenty Five: Saturday 19th March 2011
Front Nine: Eddy Stothert 20pts.
Back Nine: Halved: Eddy Stothert, Will Smith 20pts.
Match: Eddy Stothert 40pts. Will Smith 34pts, John Grant 33pts, Doug Walker 32pts, Paul Hunt 31pts, Larry Page 30pts, Daz Ridley, Duncan McCree 28pts, Bob Whitehead 26pts, Steve Todd 25pts.
The penultimate week of the 2010/2011 season, saw our league leader Rosco, able to have one off, as it were ! Of Alan's four closest rivals for top spot, Only The General could muster a score to increase his total(212), and even then, only by one point to 213. Larry, Bob and Duncan trailed in with 30, 26 and 28pts respectively ! This weeks big mover was Eddy Stothert, his superb score of 40pts, was only the third time this season that 40pts, or better has been achieved, This shows just how tough it's been this year. Well done Ed. However, he will need to repeat this rare feat, and hope the players above him don't improve their own scores ? And that's just to force a play off ? Good luck to the top six, for next week. May the best man/TOG win. The battle for the gong no one wants, is just as tight, it looks like, perm one from three ? Dave Bavaird (189), Daz Ridley (182) and Steve Todd (180) are the main men in the dog fight, There are some illustrious names on this trophy, their names, will not published here today(You know who you are !)
Week Twenty Six: Saturday 26th March 2011
Front Nine: John Grant 20pts.
Back Nine: Paul Hunt 20pts.
Match: Daz Ridley 39pts. John Grant 38pts, Bob Whitehead 37pts, Paul Hunt 37pts, Will Smith 36pts, Alan Ross 32pts, Steve Todd 31pts, Larry Page 30pts, Eddy Stothert 30 pts, Duncan McCree 27pts, Dave Rowntree 27pts, David Bavaird 22pts
They think it's all over. . . Well think again. A thrilling climax to the TOGs winter league saw Cap'n Bob deploy his fantastic short game, including chipping in at the 11th and holing out from 30 feet on the final green to catch Rosco at the top of the table. Meanwhile in the same group General John played a very steady game to leave a putt to win the title on the 18th. Well struck but it lipped out to leave a 3-way tie. "Clubhouse Leader" Roscoe got off to a bad start but rallied well and at one point had five 3-pointers in a row to just fall short of improving his score. Last years champ Larry the Plec had an off-day and couldn't get the 1 point he needed to make it a 4-way play-off.
So a play-off it is, between Alan Ross, Bob Whitehead and John Grant which will take place on Sunday 10th April all being well.
At the other end of the table Daz hit the best score of the day (39pts) to leave Stephen Todd with the Wooden Spoon; a very impressive trophy that has most of the past champions names on it. Well done to Steve, he's now got the first part of the TOGs Grand Slam!
